Cepphis advenaria


Cepphis advenaria, the little thorn, is a moth of the family Geometridae. The species can be found in Europe.
The wingspan is 23–26 mm. The length of the forewings is 14–17 mm. The ground colour is usually whitish, freckled and clouded with grey brown. The cross lines are slightly darker. The markings may be tinged with ochreous, or with red. On the rear wing is a dark dot. See also the genus description.

The moths fly from May to June. The little thorn flies during the day, preferably when it is sunny.They rest with half open fore-wings, held above the back wings.
The larvae feed mainly on bilberry.
